Dive into Safety: Do I Need a Pool Safety Certificate?

lifebuoy on wall

To address the alarming number of drowning deaths in backyard swimming pools across Australia, pool fence safety laws were implemented. These laws require homeowners to have adequate fencing in place to prevent such tragedies.

A pool compliance certificate, also known as a pool safety certificate, is issued by a licensed pool safety inspector and confirms that the pool fencing meets the current safety legislation and standards. It is necessary for buying, selling, leasing, or living in a property with a pool. In Queensland, all properties are required to comply with pool safety standards and obtain a valid pool safety certificate as of December 1st, 2010.

Upon passing the inspection, the certificate of compliance is immediately valid. Pool Safety Inspections provide clear and accurate reporting, with certificates lodged with the government within 24 hours. Reports include large photos of any nonconforming items, returned to the client within 24 hours, and reminder letters sent before the certificate's expiration date.

It's crucial to understand the standards and inspection process in your area, to ensure a successful inspection - check out the QBCC guidance here. A well-maintained pool fence with self-closing hinges or latching devices on gates is essential to comply with the pool safety laws and prevent drowning or injuries to children.
